Installing Tires on Split and Single Piece
Hubs |
|
| Using a Press and Cone |
| Cones are inexpensive and most car
tire places have a press. If you have a single piece hub and want to
install an airless tire, then it can only be done with a cone and press.
Call a car tire place, locate a press, then order tires and a cone. Make
sure you get the dimensions of the wheel and tire right. Sometimes it
makes more sense to get a new wheel that you can just slap on the
vehicle because in reality, the hub doesn't add that much in cost. Using
a cone and press makes sense if you have a bunch of wheels, otherwise it
is probably more economical to get a complete wheel ready to go. |

| Using a Split Hub |
| The airless tire is like a donut
getting squished between two hub halves. The tire must be compressed 15
- 25% of its width once the hub halves are put back together. If your
hub is 2" across, then you need a tire with 2 1/2" Bead Width, If your
hub is 3" wide then you need a tire that is at least 3 1/2" wide at the
Bead. Use two longer bolts to draw the hub halves together when
installing. |
 |
Longer bolts makes it easy, hub halves must be drawn
tight, please check the width of the tire |
