use the foam fill. General guidelines are:
The foam will not allow you to exceed the load rating of the
tire. This is not the material for that. This foam will only
allow you to achieve the load rating but no more.
This foam is considered "Low Duty" which means if you use a lawn
mower every other week, then fine, but if you use the lawn mower
every day then that is considered "moderate to heavy duty".
Don't push it, if you are having problems now because of very
extreme or heavy use, then see our page on "Tire Fill".
This material will be fine for filling tires on a hand truck but
if you start moving pianos instead of sodas then the material in
side of the tire can degrade and turn to dust.
This is why manufacturers have been reluctant to downpack the
material for the home or business DIY. This is not a miracle
cure. Only Tire Fill can support a 10,000lb helicopter dolly
tire, the material on this page tops out at 200lbs per wheel
max.
So why use it? Foam is perfect for golf courses and where
rutting might be a problem, otherwise you wouldn't believe how
tough a six ply tire is if you can find one. On the other hand,
this is fairly simple and inexpensive and entirely appropriate
for a small subset of uses. As you can see on the chart on the
right, you shouldn't try to fill tires that will take more than
5 or 6 lbs of material at a time. The urethane gets hot and you
have about three minutes to get it into the tire so there is a
lot of emphasis on the prep work.
Tires that work best are wire beaded hand truck or mower tires
that have flat profiles. Hubs must be solid and have no places
for the urethane to escape. No proprietary hubs, in other words,
do not attempt to fill any tire on a hub that you cannot replace
easily and cheaply. (words to the wise) |
