Q: How do the Air Free Industrial tires wear in comparison with pneumatic ones?
A: Air Free tires will last a lot longer than the tires you presently use. We have seen many of our tires outlast rubber tires 4 to 1 in industrial or landscaping applications.
Q: Can Air Free Tires damage my hubs?
A: No. Contrary to what many people believe, damaged hub almost always occur when an under inflated rubber tire is present. The Air Free Industrial tire actually rests on the hub shoulders and although the airless tire will not contain as much air as an inflated rubber tire, the airless tire prevents any obstacles from depressing the tire far enough to actually contact your rim.
Q: How do I know if any Air Free Industrial tires will fit my hub?
A: Use our calculator to determine which of our tires will fit your hub. Please be aware that a rubber tire can fit many different hubs but the Air Free tire is going to require a more specific fit. Where possible we try to list vehicles that we know our tires will work with.
Q: What if I have a hub that none of your tires will fit?
A: If you measured your hub as per the instructions on our sizing page and the calculator said that none of our tires will fit your hub, then we are sorry. However we are always working on new designs and will obviously target the more popular hubs. Please email us your particular details so that we may expand our database and if we get something out in the future you will be the first to know.
Q: What about braking and handling?
A: Air Free industrial tires are as good if not better than quality rubber tires. The micro-cell urethane composition of the tires (similar to your sneakers) has a co-efficient of friction comparable to rubber. So rain or dry you can expect sure footed handling.
Q: How much do Air Free tires weigh?
A: Depending on the tire you purchase, Air Free tires will weigh the same if not less than conventional tires (inner tube, tire, puncture resistant sleeve, compressed air). All tire weights are measured in grams and are shown with each tire in the collection.
Q: What are the PSI equivalencies?
A: Each tire has the PSI (pounds per square inch) shown. As you look over the collection you may notice that some tires have different PSI. This is because different tires have differing usages. Depending on your usage habits, you may require a PSI of a tire that is not shown. Click the customize tab shown with each individual tire for options.
Q: What about rolling resistance?
A: The urethane construction of Air Free tires allow for a rolling resistance equal to or similar to conventional rubber tires. Each tire manufactured has a tread pattern and diameter that minimizes the friction imparted to the terrain surface. Also because the Air Free tires tend to be less squishy than pneumatic ones, the ease of movement is greatly enhanced. If you are a very avid cyclist and typically spend $40.00 on rubber tires then please have a look at the Open Road or other High Resilient tires.
Q: What is the difference between the High Resilient tires and the standard foam tires?
A: The High Resilient option is not offered for the Industrial tires but we do offer a super juiced up standard foam that is quite durable.
Q: I already have a hub, can I just purchase a Wheelbarrow tire instead of the whole assembly?
A: We offer ready made assemblies like the wheelbarrow tire because the tire would be impossible to install on a single piece hub. We use a mechanical press at the factory. Split hubs on the other hand can easily be used by the end user to install new tires.
Q: What about installation of the Air Free Tire?
A: Air Free tires are very easy to install. All you need is a couple of long bolts a pair of pliers and a screwdriver. Getting your wheel off of your industrial vehicle may be a different matter all together.
Q: What if I need to return the tires?
A: This is never a problem. Typically, the only reason tires are ever returned, is because the wrong size tires were ordered. To make sure this doesn't happen to you, please be extra careful of the size of the tire you before you order. If you have any questions or are unsure of your tire size, email or call us. We will be happy to assist you.
Q: What other information is available to me to make an informed purchase decision?
A: The Air Free website is loaded with information and we add new information all the time. Some areas of good reading are:
The Air Free Tire and Test Data Center
The Air Free Information Headquarters which contain relevant information and professionally prepared articles
The "Ask Hugh" section which features the President of Air Free and some answers he has to more technical questions
And our Customer Service section will help make you feel good. |
